Canned Heat Woodstock Setlist Live

My Take:

Canned Heat's iconic Song "Going Up Country", became an anthem for the Festival. Alan Wilson's Soulful vocals and slide guitar work captivated the audience, setting a high bar for the band's performance. They showcased their Improvisational Skills, particularly in their rendition of "Fried Hockey Boogie," which stretched to an impressive 30 minutes. This segment included extensive Solos from various Band Members, creating a dynamic and exhilarating Atmosphere that earned them some of the loudest Ovations of the Festival.

Bob "The Bear" Hite's rapport with the Crowd was evident as he encouraged participation and even engaged with an Audience Member who made it onto the stage. This interaction highlighted the Communal Spirit of the Festival.

The Performance took place during Sunset, providing a visually striking backdrop that complemented their Music. Many Attendees and Viewers have noted how this setting enhanced the overall Experience, making it one of the most Memorable Performances of the Festival.

Their Encore "On the Road Again" is on my Top 40 All-time List...the Crowd Noise factor was a 7.

Canned Heat Musical Bio

Canned Heat is an American Blues and Bock Band that was formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The Band was founded by Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson and Bob "The Bear" Hite, both of whom were passionate Blues enthusiasts and Record collectors. They named the band after "Canned Heat Blues," a 1928 song by Tommy Johnson about an Alcoholic who resorted to drinking Sterno, a type of cooking fuel known as "canned heat".

Canned Heat began as a Jug Band, with its initial lineup including Wilson on Guitar, Harmonica, and Vocals, and Hite on Vocals. The Band went through several Lineup changes in its early days, eventually solidifying with members such as Henry "The Sunflower" Vestine on lead guitar, Larry "The Mole" Taylor on Bass, and Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra on Drums.

The Band gained prominence with their performances at major Music Festivals, including the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock. Their Music, which combined Blues standards with original material and Psychedelic Solos, resonated with the Hippie Era's audience. Canned Heat achieved International success with hits like "Going Up the Country," "On the Road Again," and "Let's Work Together"
